Parent-Child Classes

MORNING GARDEN CLASS curriculum

Parent-child classes at Emerson Waldorf School provide a supportive and welcoming environment for both children and caregivers on a weekly basis. We encourage freedom of movement and self-initiated play for the children, while parents and caregivers will practice the art of observation, meaningful work and the opportunity to learn from one another and grow as a community through sharing common experiences.

Spend a gentle, nurturing morning with your child under the guiding wing of our Waldorf early childhood teachers. Parents learn ways to support their child’s natural development and to create a healthy and balanced home life through guidance, demonstration, and group sharing, while children build confidence within a gentle, home-like rhythm.

In our Morning Garden classes, children take time to socialize and learn through play and exploration, while adults focus on mindfulness and setting the tone with meaningful work. A rich morning of indoor and outdoor activities will facilitate free gross motor movement and engage with young children’s innate capacity for learning through imitation. A homemade snack, a delightful circle of songs, gesture and lap games, and a puppet story round out the morning.

Parents will enjoy an opportunity to connect with other parents and learn how the Waldorf approach can support their child’s overall health and well-being. Together, we will explore topics such as:

• Creating a balanced rhythm that supports the well-being of the whole family

• Using self-initiated movement to support the child’s fine and gross motor development

• Promoting resilience through gentle, respectful caregiving

• Creating loving, positive family bonds through conscious parenting techniques

• Nourishing the young child’s developing senses

A care-giving grandparent is welcome to attend with their grandchild in a parent’s stead. It is preferable that the same caregiver attend class each week. The program is not intended for nannies and babysitters. We are regretful that our space does not accommodate more than one parent or caregiver per child. We can accommodate infant siblings, although an important aspect of the program is spending quality time with your young child.

Schedule:

Morning Garden takes place once per week for a 9 and 6-week sessions.

Please choose the session(s) that works best for your family, and be aware that enrollment fills quickly for this program.
